Acalanes Freshman Basketball Compete in Three-Day Holiday Tournament at Dougherty Valley

Acalanes faced a demanding three-game slate at the Dougherty Valley Holiday Tournament, opening against two strong programs before closing the tournament, and 2025, with a complete team win.

The tournament opened with a 54–28 loss to California High, as the Mustangs used efficient shooting and a significant rebounding edge to pull away. Cal High shot 54% from the field and held a 30–13 rebounding advantage in a rematch after Acalanes earned a 50–37 win earlier this season. Drew Felder led the Dons with 9 points, connecting on 3 three-pointers, while Tyler Cosso added 7 points. Eli La Rotonda and Francesco Cangini each finished with 4 points.

Day two brought a matchup with Monte Vista, where Acalanes fell 54–41 in a game that tightened as it progressed. After a slow start that saw the Dons trail by 17 after the first quarter, Acalanes settled in and outscored Monte Vista across the final three periods. Eli La Rotonda paced the Dons with 11 points, while the defense recorded 6 blocks, including 3 from Francesco Cangini. Bobby Ruhl controlled the glass with a team-high 8 rebounds.

That improvement carried into the tournament finale, where Acalanes earned a 59–49 victory over College Park. After trailing by 4 at halftime, the Dons took control with a decisive third quarter, outscoring College Park 20–12, and continued to build their lead in the fourth.

Tyler Cosso led the way with 20 points, knocking down 6 three-pointers, while adding 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. Drew Felder continued his strong tournament with 14 points on an efficient 6-for-9 shooting, including 2-for-2 from deep, while adding 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Francesco Cangini added 10 points and a team-high 8 rebounds, while Eli La Rotonda helped organize the offense in the second half, finishing with 4 assists and setting the tempo. Zenai Kaplanes-Jones chipped in 7 points, and Tade O’Keeffe and Brady Mickelson contributed key minutes, timely scoring, and consistent defensive effort.

Acalanes travels to Granada on Friday, 1/2.
