The Acalanes freshman soccer team stayed perfect on the young season with a dominant 8–0 home victory over Dougherty Valley High School on Thursday, improving its record to 3–0.
Speedy striker Nick Siewart led the way with a hat trick and was named “Man of the Match” by the coaches. Siewart opened the scoring after 15 minutes of relentless pressure, finally breaking through to give the Dons an early 1–0 lead.
Acalanes quickly doubled the advantage when Grayson Blair rose to meet a cross and buried a well taken header to make it 2–0. James Ammerman added the third goal of the half, finishing cleanly after a sleek pass from the backfield that split the defense and left him alone against a defenseless goalkeeper. Ammerman also received “Honorable Mention as Man of the Match” by the coaching staff.
The Dons carried a 3–0 lead into halftime. Unfortunately for Dougherty Valley, the Dons were just getting warmed up.
Siewart wasted no time flashing his speed, outrunning the defense on a breakaway to score his second goal of the night. Minutes later, he struck again after stealing a pass in the backfield and calmly finishing to complete his hat trick and make it 5–0.
Just 30 seconds after that goal, Mason Foster intercepted a pass from the Dougherty center back and coolly slotted it home to push the lead to 6–0.
Ben Ferber closed out the scoring with two second half goals. The first came on a header off a corner kick, and the second followed a cross that squirted through the box, where Ferber settled the ball and delivered with confidence.
The Dons return to action Saturday morning on the road in Dublin against Emerald High School. Go Dons!
