Varsity Girls Lacrosse Survives Downpour to Defeat Las Lomas 13-4

On a rare Friday evening game, the Varsity Girls Lacrosse team traveled to Walnut Creek to take on the Las Lomas Knights. They left with an impressive 13-4 win, pushing their record to 8-3 on the season.  Perhaps suffering from a post-Spring Break hangover, the game got off to an inauspicious beginning as the Knights scored the first two goals in rapid succession. From there, the skies opened up and the Dons took over, scoring 13 of the last 15 goals of the game.

On offense, Emily Roberts, Grace Colaco, and Kelly Reidenbach each scored a hat trick. The other goals came courtesy of Reese Imrie, Maya Stafford, Cate Mercier, and Ximena Espinosa, with Ximena’s goal coming on a nice lefty shot. The Dons secured 13 draws versus seven for the Knights. Grace and Kelly each had five, with Reese chipping in the remaining three. The offense did a great job moving the ball around and setting up their teammates as eight of the goals came courtesy of assists. Cate registered a game-high three assists, while Grace and Emily had two each. Kelly had the other assist, which came on a pass to Emily following a great steal from the Knights goalie. The Dons would have scored more goals were it not for some tremendous goal play by the Knights, along with several shots that bounced off the crossbar.

The Defense was happy to welcome back a few girls who missed the Miramonte game due to Spring Break. After giving up a couple early goals, they dominated, putting constant pressure on the Knights’ offense, including controlling an impressive eight loose balls.  Reese Tierney led the way with four loose balls controlled, including one where she jumped the pass like a NFL safety and snagged the ball out of the air.  Grace Eppinger had three loose balls controlled, including a great snag off an errant shot.  Julia Lyons had the other loose ball controlled for the defense. Sara Hession had another great game in goal, securing six saves while only giving up four goals on 13 shots.
