The Acalanes Girls Varsity Lacrosse squad kept its momentum rolling Friday night, traveling to take on the Bishop O’Dowd Dragons and coming away with a decisive 18–8 win. The Dons controlled the action from start to finish—though fans occasionally had to divide their attention between the lacrosse action and the baseball game happening just a few yards away. Every so often, stray foul balls rained into the stands—and even onto the lacrosse field—adding an unexpected twist (and a bit of extra adrenaline) to the evening.
They say ground balls win games, and defender Reese Tierney clearly took that personally—in the best possible way. Tierney scooped up an impressive six loose balls and delivered one of the night’s most electric moments, sprinting the length of the field before drawing a penalty and burying the ensuing shot as her teammates erupted in cheers.
The defensive unit was busy all night disrupting the Dragons’ attack. Edie Berzansky and Grace Eppinger each controlled two loose balls and helped keep Bishop O’Dowd from finding much rhythm. Maddie Obertello, Kate Uffleman, Grace Colaco, Cate Mercier, Kate Beaver, Kelly Reidenbach, and Emily Roberts each chipped in with a loose ball of their own, helping the Dons win the hustle stats.
Offensively, the Dons once again showed their firepower. Emily Roberts led the way with another double hat trick, while Grace Colaco and Christina Hageboeck each recorded hat tricks of their own. Kelly Reidenbach added two goals, and Charlotte Gellman, Reese Imrie, Kate Beaver, and Reese Tierney each found the back of the net once.
The ball movement was just as impressive as the scoring. Colaco dished out two assists, while Roberts and Ximena Espinosa each added one, keeping the offense flowing.
Possession started strong at the draw circle, where Reidenbach controlled six draws and Colaco added four, helping the Dons keep the pressure on all game long.
Back in goal, Sarah Hession anchored the defense with six saves.
All in all, it was another strong showing for the Dons—who not only handled the Dragons but also successfully navigated the occasional incoming baseball. Fortunately, the only things consistently landing in the back of the net were Dons goals.
The Dons will look to keep the momentum going in their next game on Thursday at 7 p.m., traveling to take on Piedmont High.
