JV Boys Tennis Victorious at Northgate

The JV Boys Tennis Team traveled to Northgate on a toasty Tuesday and battled in a competitive road match across 12 lines — 5 Singles and 7 Doubles — emerging with a 7–5 win.

Singles play saw highly competitive matches throughout.  In Lines 1 and 2, Eddie Leung and Reed Lusch respectively battled through long rallies but fell 5–8 against steady opponents.  Similarly, Jack Roberts in Line 3 showed resilience but came up short by the same 5–8 margin. Ilai Elbaz delivered one of the closest matches of the day in Line 4, narrowly falling 6–8. The lone singles victory came from Hirsch Peters in Line 5, who put together a composed performance to earn an 8–6 win and get Acalanes on the board.

The doubles teams provided a major boost.  In Line 1, Hugo De Torres and Brandon Fu set the tone with a dominant 8–1 victory.  Connor McAndrew and Bryson Trimble (Line 2) and Owen Lee and Cade Yen (Line 3) held it down and took care of business, both teams winning 8–0. Tyler Anderson and Conrad Smith continued the momentum in Line 4, securing a decisive 8–4 win.

In Line 5, Parker Hulst and Colin Wilson were locked in a back-and-forth battle — ultimately falling just short at 7–9.  Teddy and Will Mrachek added another point in Line 6 with a strong and well-balanced 8–3 performance. The final doubles match featured Cade Krick and Charlie McIlwain, who fought tooth and nail to deliver a 9–7 win and cap off an impressive doubles showing.

In a bonus match not reflected in the final score, Eddie Leung and Reed Lusch teamed up to play doubles against Northgate’s two top singles players.  In an abbreviated match due to time, Eddie and Reed won 6-5 (5-1 tiebreaker) to avenge their earlier defeats.

Here’s hoping the well balanced attack is a sign of things to come.
