JV Boys Tennis Do Battle with Campolindo and Miramonte

The JV Boys Tennis Team had two tough but competitive matches against league opponents last week, traveling to Campolindo on Tuesday before returning home to face Miramonte on Thursday.  Without question, the players gained valuable experience against worthy opponents.

In the first match against Campolindo, the Dons competed across six singles and seven doubles lines and went 4-9.

In Line 1 SinglesEddie Leung battled hard but ultimately fell 4–8. Reed Lusch delivered a strong performance in Line 2, earning a hard-earned 8–6 victory.  Hirsch Peters faced a tough opponent in Line 3 and fell 1–8.  InLine 4Jack Roberts played one of the most competitive matches of the afternoon, pushing his opponent to a tiebreak before narrowly falling 8–9 (6–8). Ilai Elbaz earned a convincing 8-2 win in Line 5 with his consistent play.  In Line 6, Cade Yen, playing his second match of the day, fought back from a large early deficit to get back into the match before falling 6–8.

The doubles matches featured several strong performances from the Dons.  Brandon Fu and Hugo De Torres in Line 1 and Bryson Trimble and Connor McAndrew in Line 2 each fell 2-8, with both matches having games that could have gone either way.  Will and Teddy Mrachek faced a strong pair in Line 3 and saw a 1–8 result. The Dons picked up wins in Lines 4 and 5, where Cade Yen and Owen Lee (8–4) and Tyler Anderson and Conrad Smith (8-5) played consistently and to their strengths.  Colin Wilson and Parker Hulst in Line 6 were in it the whole way but Campo pulled it out at 6–8.  Line 7 saw Cade Krick and Charlie McIlwain compete well with several long points, falling 3–8.

Two days later the JV Dons returned to action at home against Miramonte and threatened to win the match, but ending up dropping a 5-7 nailbiter.

In Line 1 Singles, Reed Lusch matched groundstrokes with a hard-hitting opponent.  Miramonte took this one 2-8, but had the outcome been even slightly different for the four games that went to deuce, this would have been a different match. Eddie Leung played a competitive match in Line 2 and was threatening throughout, eventually falling 5–8.  In Line 4, Ilai Elbaz faced a player with a booming serve and countered with his returning prowess, but came up short 4–8.  Cade Yen earned the Dons’ singles victory in Line 6 at 8-2, with a focus on consistency.  Jack Roberts (Line 3) and Hirsch Peters (Line 5) rounded out singles action, both facing strong opponents in matches that were closer than the scores indicated.

The doubles lineup again delivered several strong performances.  In Line 1, Brandon Fu and Hugo De Torres played an outstanding match and secured a thrilling 9–8 victory, winning the tiebreak 7–4.  Bryson Trimble and Parker Hulst followed with a dominant 8–0 win in Line 2, while Tyler Anderson and Conrad Smith added another victory with solid play in an 8–1 performance in Line 3.  Will and Teddy Mrachek battled throughout in Line 4 but fell 5–8.  In Line 5, Colin Wilson and Owen Lee found some quick chemistry and delivered a strong 8–3 win.  Cade Krick and Charlie McIlwain competed in a very tight contest in Line 6, narrowly falling 5–6 to a team that included one of Miramonte’s most formidable players.

The JV Dons demonstrated resilience and grit throughout both matches and continue to improve as season play progresses.
