Busy Acalanes Track Week 

On Thursday, March 19, the Dons took on Clayton Valley Charter High School at home. While still technically winter, the weather was warm and the track was fast. Varsity boys and girls both scored another dual victory over the Ugly Eagles, and the frosh-soph boys won as well. Some highlights from the meet include the boys 4×100 Matthew Schwarz, Illias Kaplanes-Jones, Jackson Boselli and River Lockwood running the fastest time ever on the Acalanes track in  42.01. The Acalanes B team took second place and the Acalanes C team took third place for a 1-2-3 win. The girls varsity 4×100 of Julia Munter, Cameron Thornton, Olivia Kemp, and Isabelle Agnost also ran their fastest time of the year, taking first place in 50.18. Our Acalanes’s B team of Danica Green, Genevieve Tarsa, Avery Titus and Margaret Stirling took second in 51.52.

The Acalanes boys 4×400 A-Team Julian Hood, Matthew Schwarz, Benjamin Mickelson, and River Lockwood relay took first place with 3:29.65.

In the field events, Acalanes went 1-2-3 in the boys long jump with Illias Kaplanes- Jones jumping 22’9”, Jake Mikalis jumping 18’6” six and Colton Whalan-Schlosser jumping 17’11.”

In the girls discus, MacKenzie Siewert threw 99’3” for first place with her personal best of the year and Amari Hollins threw 94’5” for second place. In high jump Addyson Stevens jumped 4’8” as did Avery Deily to tie for first place and Samantha Griscavage jumped 4’8” as well for 3rd place. Robyn Sherman won the pole vault with a jump of 8’0” and Alexis Le won triple jump with a jump of 33’4.5.”

In the 400 Benjamin Mickelson took first with 51.01 and Julian Hood took second with 50.25. Harry Zimmerman won the boys 800 in 2:04.55. Jason Rossetter took second in 2:06.82 and Brady Mickelson took third in 2:09.54. Harry Zimmerman also won the 1600m in 4:57.01.  Oliver Penn got second with 5:01 and Calder Krage Zillas took third for another 1-2-3 finish. River Lockwood won both the 100m hurdles in 16.44 and the 300 hurdles in 40.35.

In the girls 100m, Julia Munter took first place in 12.74 with Margaret Stirling running second with 13.42 and Danica Greene coming in third at 13.47. Julia Munter also won the 200 in 26.51, with Cameron Thornton taking second in 26.71. Nevis Murphy won the 800 in 2:26 seconds and returned to win the 3200 m in 13:17 seconds. Yanina Gallavach won the 100m hurdles in 19.38 with Shanice Williams taking second in 19.68,  and Olivia Kemp took first in the 300m hurdles in 50.23.

 

Two days later, the tracksters were at it again. On Saturday, March 21, sprinters, jumpers and throwers participated in the Swenson/Werne invitational, while the distances runners headed to the Dublin Distance Fiesta. The boys 4 x 100 relay smashed their previous time, running a 41.87 for first place at Swenson/Werne (and second in NCS). Highlights from the weekend include River Lockwood winning the 300 hurdles in 39.4, in his personal best and Illias Kaplanes-Jones winning the long jump in a personal best of 23’5” inches (placing him second in NCS).

Other notable events from the weekend include Jackson Boselli’s third place in the 100m in 10.97 and Benjamin Mickelson’s third place in the 200 in 22.31.   Benjamin Mickelson also took second place in the 400 in 49.07, his best time of the year. Alexis Le took third place in the triple jump with a jump of 32’3”. And in a very fast girls 100m race, senior Julia Munter took fifth place with her fastest time of the year in 12.58.
