Varsity Girls Lacrosse Prevails 14-8 over Dublin Gaels

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team, fresh off their win on Thursday against Berkeley, had a back-to-back on Friday, taking on the “Dub Luv” Dublin Gaels on the road. A few of the parents nearly arrived late after going for a pre-game happy hour that turned into test of patience given how long it took for the drinks to arrive. Despite the pre-game drama, the game itself lacked the fireworks of the last few games as there were no coaches ejected, no actual fireworks, no announcers, no music, and no lack of cell coverage as there was a tower disguised as a tree adjacent to the field.

I had full bars on my cell phone the whole evening

Although the Dons had more turnovers than the coaches would have liked to see, they managed to outplay the Gaels in most offensive categories, including outshooting the Gaels 27-17. The team raced out to a 6-0 lead early in the second quarter before the Gaels started chipping away at the lead. Emily Roberts led the team on offense, scoring an efficient 4 goals on 6 shots, including a great play where she snagged the ball off the goalie’s stick and scored. Midfielders Grace Colaco and Kelly Reidenbach each had a hat trick, while Charlotte Gellman, Christina Hageboeck, and Reese Imrie also chipped in a goal a piece. The Dons also dished out 8 total assists, 3 from Grace C., 2 from Cate Mercier, 2 from Emily, and 1 from Christina, vs only 2 assists for the Gaels. The Dons won 13 draws, 6 from Grace C., 3 from Kelly, and 2 each from Reese I. and Kate Beaver, vs. 9 draw wins for the Gaels.

Grace Colaco (#10) on the draw

On defense, Goalie Sara Hession picked up right she left off on Thursday, securing 6 saves and only yielding 8 goals on 17 shots, 6 of which were via penalty. The team was able to win 14 loose balls (3 from Emily, 3 from Grace E., 2 from Reese T., and 1 each from Maddie Obertello, Maya Stafford, Grace C., Kate Beaver, and Kelly). The defense also did an excellent job pushing the ball downfield to kickstart the offense, including a few long runs by Julia Lyons and Edie Berzansky, and a great full field play in the 3rd quarter where Grace E. collected a loose ball, ran upfield and passed to Grace C., who ran further upfield and passed to Kelly who took it the rest of the way for a goal.  True team play!  Go Dons!

Dons Win!

I am hoping that including a picture of a camera will send a subliminal message to someone to bring their camera to the next game to take pictures
