Under warm skies on an unseasonably balmy Thursday night, the Acalanes Girls Varsity Lacrosse team delivered an exciting 16–13 victory over Berkeley High at home. With fans filling the stands and energy high from the opening draw, it was a game that showcased grit, teamwork, and balanced scoring from start to finish.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle, with both teams trading goals and momentum. Neither side could create separation, and the scoreboard reflected the intensity as the teams went into halftime tied 7–7.
Acalanes came out strong in the third quarter, finding another gear and beginning to pull away. The Dons’ offensive unit worked cohesively, moving the ball with purpose and capitalizing on scoring opportunities to build a lead they would not relinquish.
Leading the charge on attack was senior Reese Imrie, who tallied 4 goals and 1 assist. Freshman Kelly Reidenbach made a big impact with 4 goals of her own, while senior Emily Roberts contributed 3 goals and 2 assists in a strong all around effort. Junior Grace Colaco was instrumental across the field, recording 2 goals, 3 assists, and an impressive 8 draw controls to help Acalanes control possession.
Additional scoring came from senior Christina Hageboeck (1 goal), junior Kate Beaver (1 goal), and junior Cate Mercier (1 goal), while senior Charlotte Gellman added 2 assists to round out the balanced offensive effort.
Defensively, the Dons stood strong against a determined Berkeley squad. Edie Berzansky, Ruby Bogan, Grace Eppinger, and Reese Tierney led a cohesive defensive unit that applied steady pressure and limited key opportunities. Anchoring the defense in goal, Sarah Hession recorded 4 saves, coming up with timely stops to preserve the lead.
It was a fun, high-energy game to watch and a true team win for Acalanes.
Next up, the Dons hit the road Friday night for an away matchup against Dublin. Go Dons!
