Varsity Boys Soccer: Dons Settle for 3–3 Draw After Late Equalizer by Mount Diablo

Acalanes battled Mt. Diablo to a 3–3 tie on Tuesday night, with the Red Devils scoring on the final play of the match to dampen what had been a strong Dons performance.

Acalanes created early chances through Luke WilsonZachary Birrell, and Charlie Phillips, and broke through in the 22nd minute when Omri Noiman converted a penalty kick to put the Dons ahead. Just five minutes later, Noiman linked up with Elliott Van Ornum, delivering a cross that Van Ornum finished in the 27th minute to make it 2–0. Mt. Diablo responded with a goal in the 34th minute, sending the teams into halftime with Acalanes holding a 2–1 lead.

Mt. Diablo leveled the match early in the second half, converting a penalty kick 12 minutes after the break to make it 2–2. The Dons answered again in the 62nd minute, when Harrison Sheffler made an aggressive run and beat the Mt. Diablo goalkeeper to a 50/50 ball to restore the lead at 3–2. Acalanes continued to apply pressure, highlighted by strong attacking play down the wing from Van Ornum, but Mt. Diablo found a last-second equalizer off a corner kick to tie the match 3–3 as time expired.
