Acalanes came up short in a 2–0 loss to University High School on a picture-perfect afternoon in the Presidio, battling to the final whistle against a strong Red Devils squad.
The Dons defended well early, with Bryan Lurie keeping University off the scoreboard for much of the first half with several quality saves. Harry Zimmerman and Aidan Parnell helped hold off repeated attacks along the back line, while Zachary Birrell applied pressure out of the midfield to help generate chances going forward.
University broke through late in the first half, scoring with one minute remaining to take a 1–0 lead into halftime. The Red Devils added a second goal in the 52nd minute off a cross to extend the advantage.
Acalanes continued to compete and push forward late in the match. Kyler Roberts applied strong pressure up front, and Eli Foster won a number of aerial battles to give the Dons opportunities in the attacking third. Defensively, Caleb Nguyen delivered two highlight-reel diving saves to keep the score at 2–0 as the Dons battled to the end.
Next Up: Acalanes returns to league play on the road, traveling to Mt. Diablo High School on Tuesday, with kickoff set for 7:00 PM.
