Freshman Boys Basketball Battles to Finish in 46-42 Win Over Alameda at Home

Acalanes earned a 46–42 victory over Alameda on Saturday afternoon, leaning on their rebounding advantage, taking care of the ball, and balanced scoring to hold off a late push in the 2nd half by Alameda.

The Dons played even with Alameda in the opening quarter, edging ahead 15–14 after one. Acalanes created separation in the second quarter, outscoring Alameda 17–6 to take a 32–20 lead into halftime.

Alameda made a push after the break, but the Acalanes halftime lead was enough as the Dons’ shots went cold and they were only able to muster up just 7 points in each of the final two quarters.

Francesco Cangini led Acalanes with 14 points, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free-throw line, while adding 6 rebounds. Tyler Cosso finished with 9 points, knocking down 3 three-pointers, while contributing 6 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block.

Eli La Rotonda added 8 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, and 2 blocks, while Bobby Ruhl provided a strong interior presence with 5 points and a team-high 10 rebounds, including 3 offensive boards.

Additional contributions came from Zenai Kaplannes-Jones (7 rebounds, 1 assist), Drew Felder (4 points, 4 rebounds), and Nico Choulos (4 points, 2 rebounds).

The Freshman Dons have a busy week ahead. They have games on Tuesday and Thursday at Las Lomas and Northgate, respectively, and then two games over the 3-day weekend.
