Las Lomas never found its footing.
From the opening tip, the Lady Dons made it clear this would be their night, taking care of business at home behind a historic shooting display from senior Lexi Le, who buried eight three-pointers to tie her own school record and turn a league matchup into a statement.
The tone was set early. The Dons stormed out to a 19–6 first-quarter lead, fueled by perimeter precision. Le knocked down two early threes, senior Sofia Fernandez matched her with two of her own, and freshman Millie Jones announced herself with a triple to round out the barrage. Cameron Thornton added two steady baskets in the paint, and just like that, any thoughts of a Las Lomas upset were quietly escorted out of the gym.
With the early cushion in place, the night opened up as an opportunity for growth.
Freshman Leah O’Neill battled down low, continuing her steady improvement with strong positioning and physical rebounding. She finished with five boards, a season high, and added a basket that reflected the confidence she’s building game by game.
Freshman Leia Halvorson, junior Aria Falahati, freshman Avery Deily, and sophomore Morgan Soo Hoo all logged meaningful minutes, sustaining the team’s defensive pressure and relentless pursuit of loose balls. Aria pulled down a rebound in the first half, Avery collected two, and Millie added seven total rebounds, including two on the offensive glass that kept possessions alive.
Defense, as always, told its own story. Lexi and Sofia combined for eight steals, setting the tone on the perimeter, while Sienna Fernandez, Millie, and Cameron added four more between them. Passing lanes disappeared. Dribbles felt rushed. The Dons made every possession uncomfortable.
Sienna, now a sophomore but playing with veteran poise, contributed eight points and repeatedly drew defensive attention as she attacked the lane, earning trips to the line and forcing Las Lomas to adjust.
As for Le, the night followed a familiar arc. A quieter second quarter gave way to a third-quarter eruption. Four three-pointers in the third stretched the lead beyond reach. Two more in limited fourth-quarter minutes tied her own school record. A potential ninth rattled out, denying history by inches on what otherwise felt like a casual Tuesday night in sleepy Lafayette.
Zooming out, the bigger picture continues to sharpen.
This team is forging an identity. The starting group of Sienna, Sofia, Cameron, Millie, and Lexi plays complementary basketball, spacing the floor, sharing the load, and always threatening from deep. At any moment, any one of them can heat up and make an opponent pay. Just as important, they continue to lift their younger teammates, preparing them for meaningful minutes when the stakes rise.
This group is getting better, together, at the right time.
Next up, the Dons return home to face Northgate.
