Freshman Boys Soccer: Dons Run Up Streak in Union City

The Dons (11-0) traveled to Union City on a chilly Tuesday night for a matchup with James Logan High School.  And the news must be out that this undefeated frosh crew is one to be reckoned with…

Match after match, opponents have been coming out with a heightened intensity to avoid an early deficit and this match was no different.  Spoiler alert: the first half ended scoreless and one might have assumed it was two boxers circling each other, sizing each other up without much action.  Wrong.  The Dons held a decisive advantage in time of possession and shots on goal  — including a close one by Mason Foster (#11) — but to their credit, James Logan played solid defense and kept the Dons off the board.

But each game has two halves…

The coaches, as always, made just the right halftime adjustments to author a very different 2nd half.  The offense quickly created and found holes in the defense.  Nick Siewert (#15), the squad’s leading scorer for the season, netted two goals with Jonny Rubin (#9) accounting for the third score.  The ball control of Kacper Zarzycki (#5), Gibran Khan (#6) and the other midfielders were key.

The back line played their typically solid defense and handled any semblance of attack that came their way, reversing course quickly time and again.  Along with goalies Lucas Leingang (#2) and Matt Roberts (#1), the team preserved another clean sheet for a 3-0 victory.

“Man of the Match” Tyler Anderson (#14) got the nod for his stellar effort on defense as well as for starting key counterattacks.

The next order of business is an away league game against a solid Las Lomas squad on Thursday, 1/29.  Go Dons!
