It was first-place Clayton on Friday night,
With the Dons in second, ready to fight.
But the opening spree,
Went 28–0, you see—
Proved the race for the top wasn’t tight.
Parental pre-game cocktails poured with no trouble,
The mood was relaxed in our little bubble.
But the buzz didn’t last,
Once Clayton ran past—
Had I known, I’d have made mine a double.
We were shorthanded, that much is clear,
Missing Cam and Preston, oh dear.
But Clayton came fast,
And the die was soon cast—
The beating was frankly severe.
They’re ranked twenty-sixth in the state,
And gave a beating that did not abate:
Big, skilled, and fast,
Muscled up, built to last—
That they’re better is not up for debate.
Their coach kept the starters out late,
To pad stats and strictly inflate.
Frankie Jr. had fun,
But the game was long done—
A move that is easy to hate.
Still, here’s the odd bargain we’d take:
One win that the Cougars can’t fake.
If Monday you said,
“Clayton wins, but the Campo streak’s dead?”
That’s a deal the VBBR would make.
And now comes the part that is key:
A season’s not one single spree.
You learn, you regroup,
You reload, you recoup—
And the Dons will be tougher, you’ll see.
Next up is Wednesday, redemption in sight,
With Miramonte coming in for a fight.
New lessons to earn,
New pages to turn—
And the Dons will be ready that night.
