JV Girls Basketball Opens the Season With a Spirited Loss Against Campo

Acalanes JV Girls Basketball opened the 2025-26 season with some good hustle and teamwork against a Campolindo team playing their 4th game of the season. For you trivia buffs, Nina Salazar scored the Dons’ first 2 points of the 2025-26 season.  The Dons’ early scoring was led by Emie Kunlyoshi with Amelia Serna vitalizing the team with great energy on the defensive front.  Emie opened the 2nd quarter with another outside shot, bringing the Dons to 8 points, while Julia Polson Flanagin and Ashley Gotbodori helped the team out with some strong defense. A tough first half ended with Nina hitting another bucket, bringing the Dons to 10 v. 32 for Campo to end the half.

The first half was a good learning experience for the team and the Dons came out in the second half showing their resiliency with strong teamwork, good passing and ball control.

The second half opened with captain Asha Sekhon bringing intensity to the court. This focus was shared by Willa Wolcott and Nina who both came even more alive with outside shooting and a breakaway layup for the Lady Dons.  The Dons opened the fourth quarter with a full court pressure defense that brought renewed energy to the game as well as time for newcomers Evelyn Oprea, Lillian Renbargar, and Ella Garofolo to display their defensive aggressiveness and toughness. Point guard Rania Adil guided the offense with her dribbling and passing while Nina and Asha Sekhon both came alive with Nina racking up another 6 points in rapid succession and Asha then sinking two outside shots in a row, with a 2 pointer followed by a three!

If the fourth quarter is any indicator, we should expect good things from this young and aggressive squad with the Dons rallying with 14 points to end the game in a 29 – 55 spirited loss to Campo.
