JV Football Holds Benicia to Zero, 17-0, Win!

Benicia @ Acalanes, Oct 3, Homecoming

The JV Dons had yet another impressive defensive showing holding, the Benicia Panthers to zero on Homecoming night, taking their League record to 3-0.

Let’s start with the team effort of tackling. Dax Vail (33) was the star tackler of the night, with 11, by this author’s tally the most by any Don in the season. Strong contribution by Joaquin Bordi (26) with five, Mason Anderson (19) with three, also getting in on the tackle action: Brayden Hattersley (2), Alec Schwartz (4), Max Volpian (7), Owen Blanchard (12), Jake O’Brien (13), Marco Long (16), Dylan Icay (18), Brennan Visnick (23), Miles Moore (25), Joe Wilson (45), Matei Bolata (62), Grady Branagh (67), Will Siamas (88).

Sacks always deserve a highlight. Gino Rubio (57) had his defensive showing of the season with two sacks. Miles Moore (25) also logged a sack on the night.

The backfield also showed up on “D”. Mason Anderson (19) created constant pressure, pulling in an impressive interception and batting away another pass. Brennan Visnick (23) had a game, logging an interception of his own, but also providing the pressure that aided Anderson (19) with his INT. Team work. Alec Schwartz (4), also proved to be bothersome to the Panthers offense and took down a pass.

Special teams also delivered some highlights. Max Volpian (7) had a couple of impressive kick returns. Dylan Icay (18), got in the kick action with a nice punt. Joaquin Bordi (26) blocked a kick, recovered by the always strong special teams specialist, Will Siamis (88).

Let’s not forget, our Dons scored 17 points, the offense also showed up. The tandem QBs. Nate Lederman (6) and Jake O’Brien (13) delivered. Nate Lederman (6) connected with three receivers: Dax Vail (33), Max Volpian (7) and Trey Roberts (11) and Trey took his 20 yard toss for six.

Trey Roberts (11), was the offense hero, with not only the TD pass, he had a 15 yard run for his second TD on the evening. But why stop there, when you can add a two point conversion to a day’s work. Well done Trey. But to make sure Trey does not have all the fun, Gino Rubio (57), our stalwart kicker, put up three, through the uprights.
