Girls Varsity Water Polo is ranked #3 in the country

The Acalanes Women’s Water Polo team continues their 7-game winning streak with wins against Archbiship Mitty last Wednesday and Soquel on Saturday. The Lady Dons are looking great at we enter October with a #3 ranking in the country and a 10-2 record.

The Dons got right to work by winning the spring and getting first on the scoreboard but the Monarchs answered with their own goal to tie up the game. Acalanes picked up the pace and went on a 6 goal run including goals from freshman Anika Rehn and Jayna Guiro to end the first quarter with a score of 7-1. The second quarter continued with more Acalanes goals from sophomore Lily Briones and senior Sara Williams to end the half 10-2. In the third quarter, Acalanes and Archbishop Mitty each added two to the scoreboard but Aca finished strong with goals from seniors Sadie Hendrickson and Ella Del Rosario and the final goal of the game came from sophomore Malin Stone. The Lady Dons ended with game with a score of 16-9.

On Saturday, the Dons welcomes the Soquel Knights to their turf. Last year, the Knights beat the Dons in overtime, so this time Acalanes was fueled up and ready to go! The Dons got to work scoring 5 goals in the first quarter. The Knights charged back in the second quarter with two goals, but they couldn’t stop the Dons who scored added three more tallies to the scoreboard in Q3 and Q4 to give Acalanes the win 11-6.
