Boys Varsity Water Polo Wins!

Acalanes H.S., Lafayette, CA –Varsity Mens Water Polo celebrating their 18-7 win against Novato on September 10, 2025.
Last Wednesday night the mighty Varsity Mens Water Polo Team beat the Novato Hornets with a final score of 18-7 in what might have been the longest Water Polo game ever played  in our Heaston Aquatic Center.  The game progressed as usual until almost the end of the second quarter as the Dons were leading 9 – 4, when opponents’ coach expressed his disagreement with several recent calls to the referees.  After a Yellow Card and discussion, the grievances were written up by the Hornet’s coach as formal Protests which paused play for almost 45 minutes. (This is the correct Protest Procedure according to NFHS rules, and ultimately resulted one goal not counting in the Dons favor.) Undeterred, Acalanes Head Coach Nick Jordan was calm and unruffled through the entire ordeal, instructing our Acalanes players to stay focused and limber through easy lap swimming and light ball-shooting drills as he politely and professionally awaited the formal resolution.  Parents meanwhile enjoyed an excellently curated collection of various classic and punk rock songs played via the Team’s Party Box sound system as they watched and waited, and parent Elizabeth Parrott distributed candy to players and parents alike during the long unplanned intermission.

Once play was allowed to resume, nothing could stop the ultimate victory for the Dons.  Freshman whirlwind Borna Koopah smashed 6 Goals, 4 Steals, and 3 Assists followed by seasoned Senior veteran Thomas Parrott with 4 Goals, 1 Assist, and 2 Steals.  Freshman Gunnar “Cat Burgler” Grant performed an incredible 5 steals, and multiple others steals were performed by Sophomores Alex Lavoie & Owen Andre, Junior Will Miller, Senior Mateo Picard, and Freshman Aiden Castro.  This incredibly talented team also had multiple Goals and Assists from Seniors Nico Roig & Owen Hulst, Sophomores Owen Andre, Peter Endemann, & Charlie Homles, and Freshmen Gunnar Grant & Aiden Castro while renowned Goalie Fisher “The Barrier” Bradford-Urban added 9 more Blocks and 3 more Assists to his already impressive record of 65 total Blocks and 11 Assists so far this season.
