The JV Volleyball squad kicked off their season with a Tuesday night showdown at College Park — and let’s just say it wasn’t short on drama.
The Dons jumped
out to a 4–1 lead thanks to three thunderous kills from sophomore oppo Quinn Frontiera and a monster block by Sienna Pignatelli. But just as quickly, the Falcons swooped in, flipping the script and taking an 8–7 lead. A Valentina Fantin block and a serving spree from Francesca Barbano pushed the Dons back in control.
Then came Camille “Ace” Chang, who rattled off eight straight serves — three of them aces — and suddenly it was 19–10. Comfortable, right? Wrong. This is the Dons, and they never let their fans actually relax. The scrappy Falcons clawed their way back, closing the gap to 22–21. Just as the collective blood pressure of every parent in the gym spiked, Cameron Tabak stuffed a block, and Barbano slammed the door with an ace to seal set one.
Set two started with Fantin making a… bold decision. At 4–3, apparently realizing that her team needed to be jolted, she fired a serve straight into the back of teammate Cameron Tabak’s head. Was it an accident? Maybe. Was it effective? Absolutely. Message received: time to wake up. From that point on, the Dons rolled to a 10–4 lead on more Chang aces and Frontiera kills. They never looked back, bulldozing to a 25–12 win and notching their first “W” of the season.
Moral of the story: aces, blocks, and a little friendly fire — the Dons know how to keep things interesting.
