JV Girls Tennis Beats Rival Campo 6-3

The weather was cool and cloudy Wednesday afternoon as the JV Girls Tennis Team headed to Campolindo High School for their second league match of the season. Coming off a loss Tuesday to the always formidable Miramonte team, the girls were ready to bounce back and prove themselves on the court.

The ladies at the singles line swept led by LaBonge at Line 1 (9-7), followed by Ammerman (8-3), Wilson (8-4) and Penn (8-6) (amazing tennis names, right?). With only four singles matches played, we had more doubles matches than normal:

Satterfield and Griemens held their Line 1 spot, ultimately falling 8-4, while Smith and Marshall at Line 2, who normally play singles, fell 8-5. L Lewis and Carysforth at Line 3 just started playing together a couple weeks ago but have great chemistry on the court. They ultimately fell 8-6 after a well-fought match.

At Line 4 Bell and Ivory kept their momentum going from Tuesday and quickly won their match 8-2 – might these be the pair to watch this season? Time will tell…

Line 5 doubles rounded out the team score with B Lewis and Patel taking their match 8-2. Way to play ladies!

A quick note about JV scoring; the coaches think of this in two ways. 1) They record like a Varsity match, recording the top 9 matches. For Varsity, this would feed into post-season play, but JV stops after the regular season. 2) All matches count.

While the sidelines this season have been speckled with parents and the occasional younger sibling, women’s tennis is THE BEST so bring everyone you know to our first league home match of the season this Tuesday, September 23rd at 4pm v Las Lomas – and bring a chair!
