The freshman Dons started out strong when the defense immediately forced a turnover on downs and #18 Jake Mikalis returned the punt for a TOUCHDOWN! #9 Will Feinstein made the extra point. Dons took an early 7-0 lead. Defensive plays by #64 Aiden Jeffery (sack and tackle), # 4 Leland Stone and Mikalis held the opponent to zero on the first quarter.
Once again, Mikalis gave the Dons momentum when he got a huge INTERCEPTION on College Park’s first drive of the second quarter. Dons took over on the 10 yard line, and #4 Leland Stone quickly got a rushing TOUCHDOWN! — followed by Feinstein’s extra point. Dons led 14-0 early in the second quarter.
Defense forced another turnover on downs after Mikalis, Leland (sack and tackle) and Jeffery stayed strong on defense. The Don’s next possession ate up most of the remaining time in the second half as the offense led by Feinstein moved down the field. The Dons finally found the endzone with another rushing TOUCHDOWN by #47 Stone Jaquet! Dons led 21-0 after Feinstein’s extra point.
College Park had one last chance to score in the half, but a tackle by #12 Jack Debban, a sack by #58 Luke Fratarcangeli and an INTERCEPTION by Jaquet stopped their drive.
The Dons would score one more time on their first possession of the second half. #7 Luke Kelly rushed for a first down, and then made a long pass to #17 Mateo Valenzuela on 4th down for another conversion — 1st and goal for the Dons. Valenzuela ran the ball into the endzone for a TOUCHDOWN! Feinstein found the goal posts for the fourth time this game, putting the Dons ahead 28-0.
College Park finally ran for a touchdown on their next possession after a few missed tackles by the Dons putting them on the board, but Leland blocked the extra point. Dons led 28-6.
Neither team found the endzone again for the remainder of the game. These Don players made some exciting plays in the second half as they held their opponent to 6 points: #51 DJ McClellan (tackle); #55 Harrison Clark (tackle); Kelly (tackle); Leland (forced incomplete and tackle); Jaquet (tackle); #70 Breckan Roberts (fumble recovery).
The Don’s offense tried to score on the final drive after long passes by Feinstein to Mikalis, and carries by Valenzuela and Jaquet. The final play of the game was what appeared by a touchdown pass to #44 Bobby Ruhl in the endzone, but penalties would be our enemy once again…
Final score Acalanes 28, College Park 6.
