Freshman Football Falls 12-7 in a Tough Loss to Granada Matadors

Despite leading 7-0 until late in the 4th quarter, the Acalanes Dons ultimately lost 12-7 to the Granada Matadors. The Dons played tough defense until the end, and chipped away at the yards on offense, but could not find the end zone in the second half to beat the Matadors.

This writer is no MaxPreps (stats are limited to what they see during the game…), but if they were, here is what accolades would be given to the Dons players:

Overall players of the game: #47 Stone Jaquet. Jaquet had THREE interceptions on defense giving the Dons their best shot at scoring against the opponent. He also had multiple tackles and forced incomplete passes.

Offensive player of the game: #4 Leland Stone. Leland had multiple carries resulting in the Dons one and only TOUCHDOWN! He also managed to get an interception and make tackles on defense.

Defensive player of the game: #54 Tyler Tarrab. Tarrab returned from a injury ready to rumble. He had at least 7 tackles and additional defensive stops for the Dons.

Special teams player of the game: #17 Mateo Valenzuela. Valenzuela managed to recover a flailed ball after the snap and punt to the opponent in what appeared to a potentially dangerous moment for the Dons. Oh, and he also had a sack, tackles and a couple carries for 1st downs.

Other awesome plays worth mentioning:

#73 Brady Mickelson with a huge tackle to prevent a TD late in the game.

#18 Jake Mikalis with multiple tackles, a punt return and a 20 yard pass reception.

#62 Beau Tandler with multiple tackles.

#64 Aiden Jefferey with multiple tackles.

#7 Luke Kelly with multiple tackles.

#70 Brecken Roberts with multiple tackles and defensive stops.

#16 Eli LaRotunda with a 30 yard pass reception.

#9 Will Feinstein with the extra point, a run, and many pass completions and hand offs.

#12 Jack Debban with a tackle and an awesome 5th quarter TD!

The freshman Dons held out hope to the very end and kept their heads held high after a tough loss. This week they hit the road and face Benicia on Thursday, October 2nd at 5:00 p.m.

It’s a bird. It’s a plane. It’s the Dons coming to crush Benicia!
