Freshman Football Dominate Monte Vista with a 20-6 Win!

The Don’s defense started out strong in the first Mustang drive preventing their opponents from scoring.  After a blocked punt by Acalanes, the Dons offense took over… 1st and goal on the 9 yard line! #9 Will Feinstein passed to #17 Mateo Valenzuela for a touchdown. #4 Leland Stone followed with the two point conversion. Dons lead 8-0.

Even though the Mustangs were able to get on the board with a TD, the Don’s defense didn’t back down! A combination of tackles by #17 Mateo Valenzuela, #2 Jayden Lifson, #15 William Griffin , #4 Leland Stone, #22 AJ Bishop, and #64 Aiden Jeffery, as well as forced incomplete passes and smack downs by  #17 Mateo Valenzuela, #18 Jake Mikalis and #15 William Griffin kept the Dons momentum strong in the first half.

#7 Luke Kelly took over as quarterback in the second quarter. The Mustangs played tight defense, but Kelly was able to find # 18 Jake Mikalis for another TOUCHDOWN! Even though the ball was thrown into double coverage, Mikalis prevailed and charged into the end zone. Dons lead 14-6 at the half!

The Mustangs couldn’t find the end zone again for the remainder of the game. The second half defense was led by #47 Stone Jaquet  with 5 tackles and a fumble recovery, and a sack by #62 Beau Tandler. A combination of tackles and forced incomplete passes by Valenzuela, Kelly, Mikalis, Stone, and Lifson kept the Dons on top.

The Dons offense scored one last time when #7 Luke Kelly went long to #17 Mateo Valenzuela for a touchdown. Contributing to the offense throughout the game was #51 DJ McClellan with the snaps and  #4 Leland Stone with numerous carries for first downs.

Final score: Dons win 20-6!

Other highlights included the 5th Quarter crowd pleaser pass from #58 Luke Fratarcangeli to #26 Owen Harley and a bus ride filled with laughter, pumping music and speeches. 

The freshman Dons are fired up after the win and ready to take on St. Ignatius at home this Thursday, September 11th at 4:30.
