The Acalanes Dons finished their preseason undefeated after a commanding 56-0 victory over the Mt. Diablo Red Devils on Friday night. With an offense firing on all cylinders and a defense that shut down every Mt. Diablo threat, the Dons completed their preseason with a perfect 5–0 record, sending a strong message to the league play ahead of the regular season. Here Come the Dons ( and then some).
Offensive Firepower Fueled by Team Effort
From the opening snap, Acalanes’ offense was unstoppable, powered by a cohesive team effort. Senior receiver River Lockwood contributed three touchdowns with a blend of speed, strength, and precise route-running, while senior running back Josh Elerts matched that output with three powerful rushing touchdowns, displaying a physical, downhill running style that wore down defenders. Quarterback Tyler Winkles orchestrated the offense with calm precision, effectively distributing the ball to key playmakers like Finn Rivera and Deonte Littlejohn, both of whom found the end zone with touchdowns of their own. The offensive line was famously dubbed the “Oh-Oh-My-My Line” by the opposing defenses. As the Dons dominate the trenches, opening running lanes and providing essential protection, they allow the offense to execute smoothly and efficiently as a unit. It is the way it is.
Defense: The Real Deal
While the offense racked up points, the Dons’ defense made a statement of its own, completely shutting down Mt. Diablo’s attack. Known as the “Blue Wall,” the defense prevented any sustained drives all night long, showcasing toughness, discipline, and relentless energy. Defensive highlights included an interception by Finn Rivera, who also tallied six tackles alongside standout teammate Grant Condy. Defensive end Bryce Birdsong added a critical sack, consistently disrupting the opposing quarterback’s rhythm. The defensive line deserves special recognition for its grit and teamwork. Working as a unified front, they dominated the line of scrimmage, quietly disrupting plays and setting the tone without seeking the spotlight: a true embodiment of “Fear the Blue.”
Perfect Preseason: A Legacy of Success and High Expectations
Acalanes is not just a team, it’s a complete program, built on relentless defense, explosive offense, and an unwavering team spirit. The road to another championship starts now. With five consecutive wins, including a dominant defensive shutout and an explosive offense, the Dons have proven they can win in multiple ways. With a deep, talented roster on both sides of the ball, Acalanes looks primed for a strong league campaign as they defend their two recent league championships. The Dons enter league play carrying the weight of a proud tradition, which includes two league championships and a coveted state title. Ranked #62 in the state and #3 in the North Coast Section (NCS) by MaxPreps, the Dons are widely regarded as one of the top teams in the region, with high expectations for another deep playoff run.
