Varsity Girls Tennis takes down Emerald High School 11-2 in Scrimmage

The Varsity Girls Tennis team travelled to Dublin to play a scrimmage match against Emerald High School on Wednesday. The school just opened for the 2023-2024 school year and the Varsity Girls tennis team had an impressive 12-5 record in their inaugural season last year. Does anyone know about the Emerald mascot? If you guessed something tied to the Emerald City, the Capital of the Land of Oz, you would be incorrect (fun fact, the city is not green in the original book, but a regular city where everyone wears green-tinted glasses). If you guessed that the mascot is the Aerouant, an Ancient Celtic word for a dragon-like beast, and that the mascot bridges Dublin’s Irish roots with the Sea Serpent/Asian Dragon, you would be correct.

Anyway, Emerald was short players, so all the matches featured 8 game pro sets, and some of the Emerald players played twice so that all the Dons were able to play in the match.  The girls played 7 lines of singles and won 5, and swept all 6 doubles matches.

On the singles side, Elisabetta Sokolova and Grace Colaco at line 1 and 3 respectively were both defeated 8-2.  Aamena Shipchandler played in the longest match at line 2 and won 8-7.  Emily Roberts, Delphine Fisher, and Emery Stern all won 8-1 at Lines 4, 5, and 6 respectively. Audrey Tseng blanked her opponent 8-0 at line 7.  Aamena was named player of the match.
