Welcome to the Varsity Girls Tennis 2025 Season! Last season, the team played a difficult schedule yet managed to finish 4th in the DAL Foothill Division with a record of 4-6 and an overall record of 6-8. This year, there is reason for optimism as all of last year’s All DAL selections (3 second team, one honorable mention) returned, and the team added some talented younger players.
The Season got off to a good start Tuesday as the Dons won 5-4 at home against Bishop O’ Dowd, a team that defeated them last season. On the singles side, freshman Elisabetta Sokolova played Line 1 and narrowly lost 7-6, 6-4 in her high school tennis debut. Aamena Shipchandler faced a very tough opponent and lost 6-0, 6-1 at Line 2. At Line 3, Grace Colaco battled to win 10-6 in the third set tiebreaker after losing the first set 4-6 and winning the second set 6-4. Emily Roberts and Audrey Tseng cruised to victory at Line 4 and 5, winning 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively. At Line 6, Jasmine Taylor fell 10-7 in a third set tiebreaker after losing the first set 1-6 and winning the second set 6-1. Elisabetta and Grace were named players of the match.
All the girls who played doubles last year returned this year. Lauren Foster and Ridhi Patel cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 victory at Line 1. At line 2, Sadie Moise and Grace Britto won 7-5, 7-6. Hetty Lofting and Riley Zirkel narrowly lost at line 3, falling 6-4, 6-4.
In the extended matches, Tatum Duff fell 8-6 in singles, and Molly Jones and Lauren Anderson won 8-3 in doubles.

I wanted to end with a few shout-outs. First, I wanted to give a huge shout-out to our returning coaches Sharon Langtry and Alex Duff, and our new coach Kathy Simon. I also wanted to acknowledge Suzie Lofting for being our team parent, Amy Jones for being our Booster Rep, and Rich and Jackie Zirkel for hosting the pre-season party at their home last Thursday, being team photographer, and sharing writing responsibilities with me this season. Go Dons!
The team hits the road to take on Emerald High School on Wednesday, August 27th @ 4pm
