The Acalanes Dons freshman football team will take on San Marin on Wednesday, August 27th @ 5:00. Come out and support the freshman team!
This past weekend the freshman team had an impressive scrimmage against Brentwood and San
Leandro. The team started strong on defense against Brentwood producing three turnovers—two interceptions and one fumble—while limiting the opponent to just one touchdown. The defensive line
showed excellent penetration, supported by solid linebacker and cornerback play.
The first offensive series came against San Leandro, where the Dons delivered a
dominant performance. The offensive line set the tone early, holding their blocks and
opening clear running lanes. Running backs took full advantage, consistently gaining
yardage and breaking off several long runs with vision and power. One of those plays
led to a long touchdown run by one of the Dons’ quarterbacks. With poise and precision,
the quarterbacks connected with wide receivers who ran sharp routes and made several
impressive catches. By the end of this offensive period, the Dons had scored two
rushing touchdowns.
Momentum carried into the second offensive period against Brentwood. Similar to their
earlier performance against San Leandro, the running backs ran hard and fought for
tough yards between the tackles. The lone touchdown of this period came on a deep
pass to a wide receiver, highlighting the offense’s ability to strike through the air.
Throughout the drive, the unit moved the ball effectively, demonstrating balance,
physicality, and consistency.
The final defensive period was against San Leandro, and the Dons’ defense rose to the
occasion. They consistently held San Leandro to negative or short gains, with the
defensive line leading the charge—penetrating the backfield and putting steady
pressure on both the quarterback and the run game. Despite a gritty effort, San Leandro
managed its lone touchdown on a run in the final seconds of the period.
Overall, it was a standout day for the incoming freshmen, many of whom experienced
full-contact football for the first time. It was also an excellent showing for Coach Dana
Hemmingsen and the entire freshmen coaching staff, whose attention to detail,
competitive spirit, and preparation were clearly on display.
