Friday May 2, 2025 was a very difficult day for all of these young ladies as many of them visited the viewing of their recently departed friend Amin and were completing a couple of weeks of mourning for this wonderful young man. However, it was also to be their last game of the season and it was against Campo so many players came out to play this final game even though their heart was probably elsewhere.
Once again these incredibly young women mustered up the heart and emotion for this game and did not disappoint the home town fans winning 6 to 2 to end another successful season with a 17 win and 1 loss season. Their combined record for the last two years is 34 wins and 1 loss and their combined record for the last three years was 49 and 3. During that period the Dons have not lost a game in conference including going 10 and 0 against Campo and Miramonte.
The Dons on this day were quietly intense and came out and played with a defensive ferocity that one rarely sees in sports especially in Women’s Lax. The defense of Maddie “Little General” Obertello, Julia “Lightening” Lyons, Ruby the “Glove” Bogan and new starter freshman Bea “Ba, Ba, Ba Bea” (incredibly filling in for Molly the “Wall” Jones) along with Goalie Persephone Quine would not be denied. All of them were everywhere all the time confounding and confusing the Campo offense. Campo scored on one crease roll and one penalty shot that was it. Nothing else was close. Other defenders including Avila Payne and Penny Haslam continued the domination over the Campo offense.
The midfielders missing several regulars for sickness, services and other reasons controlled the tempo of the game the entire time. Ella “Cool and Calm” Culbertson, Svea Staino, Eloise Greeson along with new comers Dora Henel and Chloe Vignoles hustled all over the field and controlled the ball and the clock while gathering ground balls and distributing assists and goals.
On attack the starters, Stella “I’m Groot” Degroot, Samantha “Swifty” Swift, Savanna “Savvy M” Martinez, Cate “Shows No Mercy” Mercier, and the return after injury of Talia “tenacious” Tichnor scored, distributed, worked the ball around and played incredible re-defense against the Kitty Cat’s from Campo. Other attack players that contributed mightily were Lexi Chaput, Yali Avrahami, Delphine Fisher and savvy veterans Taryn “first yellow” Stevenson and Willa Wolcott. Samantha and Cate each had two goals with Ella, and Talia adding a goal apiece. Assists by Stella, Julia, Ella, Svea with two and Savannah rounded out the scoring.
It must be mentioned that a significant factor for the win was that the sidelines spirit and camaraderie once again were second to none and helped our team when once again.
It was a spirited effort against a team from Campolindo that wanted to win this game more then any game this season as many of the girls had become friends over our Saturday scrimmages. However, for the Kitty Cats it was not to be once again.
We are so proud of this team and everything they brought to each and every game and especially on this day. Even if they are not on their A game or have other much more difficult and important things going on in their lives they do not quit and their effort is always unmatched. They play hard and most importantly they play as team ALWAYS! This team looks forward to an offseason where each and every player plans to work on improving. However, at this moment there is nothing to improve upon as they are the champs of the DAL and most importantly they are an incredible group of Forty young ladies who proudly and nobly represent Acalanes High School both on the field and off!
GOOOOOOOO DONSSSSSS!!!!!!!
