The Acalanes Dons Girls Varsity Lacrosse team delivered a statement win Tuesday night, overpowering Northgate 17-5 in a game that showcased both offensive firepower and defensive dominance.
The Dons came out strong and never let up. Reese Imrie got things going by assisting Catalina Liu for the first goal of the game, then quickly followed with her own off a rebound. Grace Colaco found the net next on a pass from Meghan Churchill, then assisted Liu with her second goal of the game. Liu made a heads-up play by stripping the ball from the goalie and scoring unassisted giving her a hat trick early in the game. Churchill kept the momentum going, connecting with Emily Roberts for another goal. Imrie tallied her second to cap off a dominant first quarter, giving the Dons a commanding 7-1 lead.
In the second quarter, Charlotte Gellman fed Christina Hageboeck for a smooth finish, and Stella Hamilton fired in a goal off an 8-meter shot. Acalanes entered halftime up 9-2, firmly in control.
The second half was more of the same. Campbell Evans circled the crease for her first goal of the night, and even the defense got in on the scoring action as Edie Berzansky carried the ball the full length of the field for her first goal of the season. Imrie completed her hat trick shortly after on a pass from Maya Stafford. Colaco set up Evans for another goal, and Evans quickly followed with her third of the night, notching a hat trick of her own. Colaco then scored on an 8-meter shot, and Lucca DeBiasse wrapped up the scoring with two 8 meters goals of her own.
The win was truly a team effort, with all Dons contributing. Grace Eppinger led the team in ground ball scoops with 3, followed closely by Taylor Mikalis with 2. The defensive unit of Claire Zimmerman, Reese Westphal, Eppinger, Reese Tierney, Addie McShane, Berzansky, and Kate Uffleman held the Knights to just 5 goals for the game. On the rare occasions Northgate broke through, goalie Sarah Hession stood tall, finishing with 6 saves on the night.
Final score: Acalanes 17, Northgate 5.
Wrapping up a very busy week, the Dons celebrate Senior Night at home against Campolindo Friday night at 7pm. Let’s Go Dons!
