AHS Swim Shows Up Strong at DAL Prelims – Thursday 5/1

It was a perfectly warm day for a swim meet as the 12 DAL teams gathered at Campo for the preliminaries of the season-ending meet. NCS is next weekend, but only for those who qualify!  

The meet started off with a huge achievement by the 200 Medley Relay Girls A team – Malin Stone, Anna Motes, Tess Veronda and Sadie Suppiger went 1:50.86 (an NCS automatic time by over 4 seconds!) for a 5th place finish and now sit at #10 on the All-Time Acalanes Best Times list! They are 0.08 off the 9th place team set just last year (Anna and Tess were also on that team). The B team of Ava Bell, Audrey Martin, Lily Briones and Ellie Budke went CONS in 1:59.30 finishing 13th.  The Boys A team of Mason Schlehr, Jayden Hwang, Tony Yamamoto and Jace Carter went CONS in 1:45.80, finishing in 12th place. The B team of Dane Schurhoff, Gavin Barclay, Ryan Gerhardt and Thomas Butler-Kurimai finished 17th.  

In the 200 Free Varsity races, Ella Del Rosario finished 6th in 1:58.11, qualifying for the A final on Saturday! Avery Tanimura and Olivia Whipple finished 21st and and 23rd.  They will swim in the C final. Kate Roberts finished 25th with a season’s best time of 2:15.68! In the boys race, Braden Dunton shaved over a second off his best time, earning his first NCS Consideration time with a 1:50.71! He will swim in the B final on Saturday.  Andrew Tanimura went 1:51.88 (NCS Cons cutoff is 1:51.11) in his 19th place finish and will go for that CONS time in the C final on Saturday.  Gavin Barclay finished 25th and be an alternate for the finals!

Next up in the 200 IM races, Anna Motes qualified for the A final in 2:16.02, finishing 6th. Malin Stone also qualified for the A final, finishing 8th with a 2:18.23!  Lily Briones will swim in the B final after finishing 11th with 2:21.81 (NCS Cons cutoff is 2:21.55).  Let’s GO Lily! Mason Schlehr finished 11th in the boys race, with his own NCS Cons time of 2:04.22.  Owen Andre and Jayden Hwang finished 26th and 28th. Owen will swim in the C final and Jayden is a finals alternate! 

In the 50 free finals, Sara Williams and Adelyn Horciza finished 20th and 24th, qualifying for the C final on Saturday.  Lucy McShane and Jess Gerhardt qualified as the 3rd and 4th swimmers from AHS, and will also swim on Saturday in the C final!  Siena La Rotonda, Caroline Tumilty, Madison Bauer and Ava Bell all swam season’s best times. In the boys race, Jace Carter and Wilson Daughters (in a seasons best time of 23.92) qualified for the C final on Saturday!

Next up was the 100 Fly, which saw Tess Veronda finish 18th and qualify for the C final. Ellie Budke swam a seasons best time of 1:09.17, and is a finals alternate! Owen Andre and Ryan Gerhardt both had huge time pops, finishing 27th and 29th.  Owen will swim in the C final, and Ryan is a finals alternate!  Noah Moseley also had a seasons best time of 1:14.44! 

In the 100 free races, Sadie Suppiger finished FIRST in 52.20 (improving her #5 all-time AHS time from 52.28) and Ella Del Rosario finished 7th in 54.02! They will both swim the A final on Saturday. Sara Williams and Lily Briones also swam seasons best times of 57.52 and 58.18 respectively, and will swim in the C final. Audrey Martin, Nina Bundy, Kate Roberts, Ava Bell, Sadie Hendrickson, Caroline Tumilty, Hannah Geraghty and MaeLin Mason all swam season best times.  Gavin Barclay swam a seasons best 52.64, qualifying for the C final.  Jace Carter and Max Musch also qualified for the C final!  Wilson Daughters and Sean Geraghty also swam seasons best times.  

In the 500 Free races, Avery Tanimura and Olivia Whipple will both swim in the B final after finishing 13th and 16th respectively. Braden Dunton had the swim of his life, cutting over 7 seconds, finishing 10th in just under 5 minutes in 4:59.29, his second NCS Cons time!  Andrew Tanimura will join him, after finishing 14th in his season’s best of 5:02.93 – this is Andrew’s first NCS Cons time!  

After a short dive break (where no diving occurs), the 200 Free Relay races resumed the meet.  The Girls teams finished 6th and 12th respectively.  The A team of Ella Del Rosario, Adelyn Horciza, Sara Williams and Lucy McShane went 1:44.88, and the B team of Nina Bundy, Caroline Tumilty, Jess Gerhardt and Ellie Budke went 1:50.15, both NCS Cons times! The Boys A team of Andrew Tanimura, Peter Endemann, Tony Yamamoto and Max Musch finished 12th with an NCS Cons time of 1:37.16. The B team of Ryan Gerhardt, Owen Andre, Wilson Daughters and Thomas Butler-Kurimai finished 17th. 

In the 100 Back, Sadie Suppiger finished FIRST again with an NCS Automatic time of 57.55! Malin Stone was 9th with 1:03.04 and Tess Veronda was 15th.  Both Malin and Tess will swim in the B final on Saturday.  Mason Schlehr finished 10th in an NCS Cons time of 56.80, and Dane Schurhoff finished 29th in 1:07.33, a 2.5 second improvement!  Mason will swim in the B final and Dane will swim in the C final on Saturday. 

The 100 Breast races saw Anna Motes and Audrey Martin finishing 5th and 6th respectively, with times of 1:08.07 and 1:08.12, both NCS Cons times! Audrey’s time was good enough to place her at #9 on the AHS All-Time list! Both Anna and Audrey have qualified for the A final on Saturday. Adelyn Horciza will swim in the C final, after finishing 19th.  Jayden Hwang finished 21st in a seasons best time of 1:05.62, and will swim in the C final on Saturday. Jay Shoenhair swam a seasons best time as well, finishing 32nd.  

The meet finished with the 400 Free Relay races. The Girls A team of Malin Stone, Ella Del Rosario, Anna Motes and Sadie Suppiger finished 4th with an NCS Automatic time of 3:44.29! The B team of Jess Gerhardt, Lucy McShane, Audrey Tseng and Siena La Rotonda finished 11th in 3:55.60! The Boys A team of Andrew Tanimura, Jace Carter, Mason Schlehr and Max Musch finished 14th in an NCS Cons time of 3:31.82.  The B team of Owen Andre, Ryan Gerhardt, Gavin Barclay and Peter Endemann finished 16th in 3:40.95.  

What an afternoon of amazing swims!  The Dons will be back at it on Saturday morning for the DAL Finals!  NCS qualifiers will be announced on Monday!  GO DONS!
