The team traveled to Pleasant Hill to take on the always tough College Park Falcons on Tuesday. The Falcons came out swinging and scored three runs in their half of the first inning to take an early 3-0 lead.
The Dons came back with two runs in the top of the third inning to tighten the game at 3-2, thanks to a triple from senior catcher Esa Orman that scored sophomore left fielder Vanessa Choi. Sophomore third baseman Santana Tamayo followed with a ground out to the shortstop to score Esa and knock in a run.
Unfortunately, the Falcons continued to get on base and score runs throughout the contest. They won by a final score of 12-2 after 6 innings.
There were Acalanes baserunners throughout the afternoon, but the Dons just could not get the big hit when they needed it. The team was led by Esa and sophomore shortstop Riley Zirkel who each had two hits while getting on base 3-3 (Esa hit by pitch and Riley walked in her first at bat).
Senior centerfielder Emme Young, freshman first baseman June Natal and junior pitcher Maya Shoenhair also each had a hit in the contest.
The girls take their 8-3 record to Piedmont on Thursday to take on the Piedmont Highlanders. It is always darkest before dawn. Expect the squad to start a new winning streak soon. They are very close. It’s time to rally. Go Dons!
