Varsity Softball Beats Northgate 14-11!

The varsity Dons got in a slugfest with another league rival on Tuesday in the rugged DAL, upper division.  The girls knocked out an impressive 18 hits on their way to a dramatic road win that pushed their overall record to 9-4.

Sophomore left fielder Vanessa Choi, senior first baseman Esa Orman, sophomore third baseman Santana Tamayo, junior pitcher Maya Shoenhair and senior second baseman Avery Robb all had three hits to lead the team.

#7 Vanessa Choi
#22 Esa Orman
#21 Santana Tamayo
#1 Maya Shoenhair
#8 Avery Robb

Santana and freshman catcher June Natal also had three runs batted in for the day.

Defensively,  three players distinguished themselves with outstanding play.  Senior center fielder Emme Young made several great plays including a fully extended diving catch in left center that ended a Bronco rally in the bottom of the third inning.

First baseman Esa Orman led the infield with her leadership and glove throughout the contest.  She is special at first, fielding grounders and errant throws.  Esa turns hits into outs on a regular basis.

Behind the plate, June Natal is showing wisdom and ability beyond her years.  In a frantic third inning June fielded a bunt and threw a dart to first for the first out of the inning.  Later that inning, with a runner on first, she threw out a Bronco runner at second thanks in part to a great swipe tag by shortstop Riley Zirkel.  June was rock solid when her team needed her most.

Junior Maya Shoenhair was in the circle for the Dons again.  She threw another complete game, battling threw some defensive hiccups to notch the victory.

Overall it was a quality team win and their second road win against DAL foe Northgate for the second year in a row.

The girls take on the Alhambra Bulldogs today at 4:30pm at home.  Come cheer on this dynamic squad as they take on more DAL contenders.  This team can play!
