The Girls Varsity Lacrosse team hit the road on Tuesday, travelling through the tunnel to take on the Piedmont Highlanders. In addition to it being tax day, it was also Charlotte Gellman’s birthday, which the team celebrated by hoisting her up in the air and eating cupcakes (not simultaneously).
The game was a tale of two halves. In the first half, the team was outscored 11-0 as Piedmont was able to convert a dizzying array of shots on the offensive end and contain the Dons on the defensive end, including some tremendous saves by the Piedmont goalie. There were a few bright spots for the Dons. Emily Roberts (#22) had a couple good shots on goal on passes from Megan Churchill (#15), Goalie Sarah Hession (#75) had a couple nice saves, and defender Claire Zimmerman (#3) had a great run up the field where she went through a host of defenders and tiptoed along the line to stay in bounds.
In the second half, the Dons battled the Highlanders to a 4-4 draw. Emily had a shot deflected by the goalie that Megan corralled and converted into a goal to get the Dons on the board. Catalina Liu (#20) scored following a steal by Grace Colaco (#10), Christina Hageboeck (#9) had a nice assist to Megan for her second goal, and lastly Catalina split a pair of defenders and passed to Grace who converted the Dons last goal on the day. Taylor Mikalis (#18) also had a nice play on defense, blocking a free shot.
The girls return home to take on Northgate on Friday at 7pm
