While some were relaxing on the beach, the Track & Field Dons were busy tearing up tracks all over the Bay Area.
At the Stanford Invitational, Illias Kaplanes-Jones started the Dons properly bt taking 4th in the long jump with with a huge PR 22′ 7.75″ leap, moving him up to 5th best in ACA history. Back on the track twelve hours later, Illias helped the 4×100 relay team (Ilias Kaplanes-Jones, Matthew Schwarz, Jackson Boselli, RiverLockwood) reach the finals and place 8th with a new season record 43.06, moving the team up to 7th best in ACA history. Meanwhile, senior Dulci Vail was fighting off an incredibly strong field and ultimately won the event with a new PR 5′ 7.25″ to become the first female Dons winner at the event since…well, we don’t actually know, it has been a very long time.
Across the bay and into the delta, Junior Neve Murphy was having her best day of the year at the Delta College Invitational, winning the 800 meters in a season record 2:22.62 and taking second in the 1600 with a season record 5:12.71 while teammate Benjamin Mickelson placed third in the 200 meters. Anju Sekhon had two PRS on the day, taking 6th in the 1600 and 7th in the 800 while Julian Hood and Bryan Lurie cruised to 8th and 10th place finishes respectively in the 400 meters.
Earlier in the week senior Haley Chelemedos competed against a packed field at the Bay Area Relays finishing with a 3rd place finish in the long jump and freshman Miles Moore pole vaulted to a 4th place finish at the Castro Valley Relays.
A week of back-to-the-track and training and then the Dons will host Northgate at home on Wednesday, April 16th, come on out, it promises to be a very competitive meet.
