Before Spring Break, the JV Girls Lacrosse team had their first loss of the season to an excellent Cal High team. The game was incredibly competitive. Although they lost by 2 goals, the players put everything they had into this game and gave their fans an exciting game to watch. Their composure and sportsmanship were wonderful to watch.
After Spring Break, the girls came back strong and dominated Campo! Svea Staino won the first draw, and then the ball was thrown to Allie Schofield for Acalanes goal #1 in the first few seconds. Acalanes goal #2 came in the next few minutes from Cate Mercier. The first quarter was fast-paced and close; Acalanes led Campo 6-3. The entire team continued to work hard during the first half and widened the lead to 10-5.
By the second half, our offense and defense continued to work well together and continued to dominate making it very difficult for Campo to keep up! Allie Schofield played fantastic and had at least 3 goals. Coach Steve commented that Allie had her best game of the season so far. Svea Staino was awesome winning multiple draws and had 4 goals. Cate Mercier was unstoppable with 4 goals and Talia Tichenor had an awesome second half and scored at least 3 goals total. Ella Culbertson was tenacious and unrelenting with several assists and scored at least 1 goal. Samantha Swift came in and scored 1 goal quickly and didn’t let jet lag keep her down. On defense Julia Lyons, Molly Jones, Maddie Obertello, Ruby Bogan, Bea Deignan, Livvy Lewis, and Avila Payne created very few opportunities for Campo to take shots. Persephone and Chloe made several great saves in goal. On a defensive steal, Julia Lyons ran the ball down and scored 1 goal.
Steve, Scott and Ella, our amazing coaches, continue to inspire these athletes. We really appreciate all the passion and energy they put into coaching! Next game is at home vs Granada HS on Friday at 5:30pm!
