On an unseasonably warm day in Moraga the Varsity Dons completed a two-game sweep of the Campolindo Cougars with an 18-7 win on Tuesday to push their impressive record to 7-1. It was the eighth straight win over Campo for Seniors Esa Orman, Avery Robb and Emme Young. Not a bad varsity accomplishment. It was also the seventh straight win for the Acalanes squad.

Again, the Cougars started strong. They grabbed a 5-3 lead after two innings, before…Boom! Boom! Out go the lights! The Dons scored 15 runs over the next three innings to cruise to an 18-7 victory.
The lightning, centerfielder Emme Young (2 hits, 2 walks, 3 stolen bases, 3 runs scored and 3 batted in) and sophomore shortstop Riley Zirkel (3 hits, a stolen base, 2 runs scored and a run batted in) got on base early and often. Emme continued to get on safely at a record level and Riley continued to get on base with two incredibly precise bunts and a hit.
#16 Riley Zirkel – 2 bunts for base hits

The thunder was ready as usual. Sophomore left fielder Vanessa Choi had a hit, 2 runs scored, a couple of stolen bases and a couple of runs batted in. First baseman Esa Orman had a hit, a run scored and 2 runs batted in (she hit the ball hard in every at bat) and sophomore third baseman Santana Tamayo continued her torrid pace this season with 3 hits, 2 runs scored and 3 runs batted in, including a towering home run to left field.
#21 Santana Tamayo – Home Run!

Acalanes pitchers, junior starter Maya Shoenhair and reliever, sophomore Margaux Stone combined to give up 4 earned runs, 6 walks with 4 strikeouts over 5 innings. Like the first game against Campo last week, this game was called after 5 innings due to the 10-run rule.
#11 Pitcher Margaux Stone

The Dons play another rival on Thursday. The Las Lomas Knights come to Lafayette to take on our squad at 4:30pm. Come out and see the girls rock. It’s the best deal in town. Go Dons!
