The Varsity Softball team put on another offensive show on Tuesday led by sophomore third baseman Santana Tamaya. Santana had another solid game at third along with 2 hits, 3 runs scored, a walk and 5 huge RBI’s, including 4 from a towering grand slam in the bottom of the 3rd inning that put the game out of reach. The young Dons continue to hit!

The squad took on the Encinal Jets on a sunny afternoon in Lafayette. The girls came out in their home whites and looked very strong against a solid Encinal team that Acalanes regularly sees in the NCS playoffs. Senior first baseman/catcher Esa Orman hit an impressive varsity milestone when she walked in the 3rd inning to force in right fielder Gabby Huerta and recorded her 100th career RBI at Acalanes. She has had an incredible varsity career and it is far from over. Gabby Huerta also had a nice game at the plate with 2 hits (including a double over the centerfielder’s head), a run scored and an RBI, while playing solid defense in right and eventually first base.

Junior Maya Shoenhair started in the circle again for the Dons and pitched very well for 4 innings. She gave up 5 hits, a walk and 2 runs, while recording 2 strikeouts. Maya also doubled over the left fielder’s head in the 1st inning to put the team up 2-0. It was a lead that they would not relinquish.

Sophomore Margaux Stone took the ball in the top of the 5th and final frame. She recorded a quick 1-2-3 inning, setting the Jets down in order, to complete the second victory of the year for the team. This was also the second consecutive “10 Run Rule” win this season.

Defensively, the squad did not record an error. The outfield and infield played clean, solid defense throughout the contest. The team is coming together nicely this year.
The Jets were missing a couple of solid players, due to a conflict with the basketball playoffs. Don’t be surprised if these two teams square off again in the playoffs. Nonetheless, the Dons took care of business again with another 13-2 W!
The Varsity Dons take on the Las Lomas Knights Thursday 3/6 at 3:30pm in Walnut Creek. Come out and see this team compete. They score runs in bunches! Go Dons
