Varsity Softball Dominates Albany 13-2!

The Varsity Girls Softball team took on the Albany Cougars on a beautiful sunny Thursday afternoon in Lafayette.  The Dons came out in their home whites and were ready to rock. Once again the squad had their hitting shoes on.  They tallied 13 runs from 12 hits before the umpires called the game due to the “10 Run Rule” in the bottom of the 5th inning.

Junior Maya Shoenhair started in the circle for the Dons.  She went 4 strong innings, giving up 2 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs to go with her 2 strikeouts.  Maya was relieved by Sophomore Marguax Stone.  Marguax made an impressive varsity debut, pitching a scoreless 5th inning and only facing 4 batters.

Offensively, the Dons were led by senior centerfielder Emme Young (2 hits, a walk and 3 runs scored) and senior first baseman Esa Orman (3 hits, 3 runs scored and 2 RBIs).  Esa also made some very nice plays at first base and led the young infield nicely with constant positive vibes.

The Dons scored in 4 of the 5 innings of the contest.  With the game still relatively close in the 3rd inning at 7-2, junior right fielder Lauren Foster led off with a single, followed by a single from Emme Young.  Sophomore Vanessa Choi came up with 2 on and no outs, before…wait for it…BOOM GOES THE DYNAMITE!!! Vanessa drilled a line drive over the left field fence for a 3 run homer to give the home team a 10-2 lead! It was her first varsity homer and it was loud.

Sophomore shortstop Riley Zirkel finished the scoring for the Dons with a single to knock in the final two runs of the game.  Fabulous freshman June Natal had another impressive game.  She caught the entire contest, threw a runner out at 2nd and collected another 3 hits and 2 RBIs.

It was an all-around team victory for the Dons.  The girls continued to hit the ball hard, run the bases well and make the plays defensively when it matters most.  They take on the Encinal Jets on Tuesday, March 4th at 3:30p at home.  Come out and see this team compete.  They can really play!

GO DONS!
