As Coach Steve predicted this week, Miramonte was going to be a tough opponent, and he was right. This was the most competitive game the Girls JV lacrosse team has had all season, but Acalanes fought all game and came out with a hard-earned win. Final score 16-11.
The energy on the field and in the stands was amazing! Our Acalanes JV players cheered their teammates on the entire game with incredible energy and spirit! Fortunately, the energy and team spirit from our Acalanes JV lacrosse team and fans drowned out the Miramonte fans stomping on the bleachers.
Acalanes offense and defense played incredibly hard all game! Cate Mercier scored quickly in the first quarter, but Miramonte quickly tied it up with a goal of their own. Then Ella Culbertson and Savannah Martinez both had amazing shots on goal and scored, along with an error by Miramonte, bounced the score to 4-1. Miramonte came back after making that error and scored one more before the 1st quarter was through. 4-2 First Quarter. In the second quarter, Talia Tichenor, Ella Culbertson, and Svea Staino all scored one goal and Cate Mercier had two more goals. Our powerhouse offense had support from their aggressive and fast defensive line. Julia Lyons, Molly Jones, Maddie Obertello, and Ruby Bogan made great defensive plays and ran the ball up the field and set up the offense with passes in front of the goal. At halftime the score was 9-5.
Miramonte came out strong in the second half with several fast runs down the field and numerous shots. Although they were able to capitalize on their aggressive play by scoring a few goals, the defensive line of Ruby Bogan, Maddie Obertello, Molly Jones, Julia Lyons, Bea Deignan and goalies Chloe Lloyd and Persephone Quine stayed tough the entire game. Meanwhile, the Acalanes offense led by Ella Culbertson and Cate Mercier had 4 goals each, Svea Staino had an incredible game with 3 goals, Savannah Martinez had 2 goals, and Stella DeGroot and Talia Tichenor with 1 goal. Every minute of the game, the entire JV team of 43 players cheered on their teammates, and did a pushup cheer for each goal scored. It was so much fun to watch this entire team support each other on Friday night led by our amazing coaches, Steve Seiler and Scott Stafford.
