A small and mighty group of Dons jumped, ran and threw impressively Saturday at San Ramon’s annual track and field festival which attracted some of the top regional athletes in the last qualifying event before the Stanford and Arcadia Invitational’s.
Senior Haley Chelemedos started the winning ways for the Dons in the morning session, taking 2nd in the long jump in a PR, DAL leading 17′ 5.5″, 10th best all-time at Acalanes, just nudging past coach Joy Upshaw’s 1977 17’3″ leap. Deonte Littlejohn took the scoring baton immediately and took second in the discus with an impressive toss of 153’10 and 6th in the shotput with a toss of 41′ 9.5″.
It didn’t take long for Senior Dulci Vail to get going, and when she did, lights out for the competition as Dulci won the high jump at 5′ 6″, a DAL and NCS leading height and just off Dulci’s PR of 5′ 7″.
Also in the morning session Amin Noroozi placed 3rd in the shotput with a PR 43′ 10″ toss and 8th in the discus with a toss of 116′ 8″ while Santiago Trejo Channel placed 7th in the discuss with a toss of 117′ 2″. Also scoring in the field events were Grant Ricker with a PR triple jump of 41′ 3.5″ good for 3rd place, Illias Kaplanes Jones with an 8th place 20′ 6.5″ long jump and freshman Miles Moore finished the field event scoring with a tie 7th in the pole vault with a PR 12′ mark, an impressive freshman mark!
The running events got off to a fast start, with the girls 4×100 team of Sophie Chinn, Isabelle Agnost, Olivia Kemp and Haley Chelemedos taking 5th in a season record 50.28, followed by the boys team of Illias Kaplanes Jones, Matthew Schwarz, Jackson Boselli and River Lockwood taking third in a season best 43.24, moving the team from 9th fastest in ACA history to 8th. Shortly after the 4×100’s freshman Isabelle Agnost ran a PR 13.02 in the girls 100 and Matthew Schwarz ran a season best 11.4 in the boy’s 100 as he regains his form after injury.
In the boy’s 300 meter hurdles junior River Lockwood took 3rd in a PR 41.17, 8th best in ACA history, one spot above Chip Upshaw’s 1979 mark of 41.24 and in the 200’s freshman Benjamin Mickelson blazed his way to a 6th place finish in a super fast 22.87, third fastest Frosh-Soph ACA time behind sprinting sensations Paul Kuhner and Tim Green and Haley Chelemedos set a PR 26.56, 11th best ACA time, nudging past ACA sensation and Olympian Grace Upshaw’s 1993 record 26.74.
