*Oh they had a little party down in the WC. There was Northgate, Acalanes and field space. Oh they had a little lacrosse game in the WC and Lady Dons were once again Victors in the Place!
13 Dons players including 6 starters were out having fun at a soccer tournament and having a blast I’m sure but nothing could have been as fun as watching so many new Dons playing like seasoned veterans and controlling the destiny of this wonderful group of young ladies. So much fun to watch as new players truly blossomed in this game.
First year players like Michela Barbano (multiple goals and assists from the midfield), Lexi Chaput (3 goals), Dora Henel (controlling the midfield and helping anchor the defense, Bea Deignan (everywhere all the time), Penny Haslam (aggressive everywhere on the field) and Chloe Vignoles (athletic marvel). Other new players that contributed were Genevieve Tenorio, Olivia Bush and Natalie Barciaga,
Our seasoned stalwarts also contributed mightily. They included Willa Wolcott, Taryn Stevenson Stella Pacheco (had a masterful shot for a goal), and one cannot forget to mention Yali Avrahimi who had a goal and played a great game at attack.
Other truly standout performances were turned in Cate “No Mercy” Mercier who had two goals and six assists (that’s right 6!), Eloise Greeson who had her breakout game as a Don and truly established herself in the midfield rotation, starting attack players Stella “I’m Groot” DeGroot and Samantha “Swifty Swift” and Savannah “Savvy M” Martinez with at least one goal apiece.
One would be remiss not to mention that the “FAB FOUR” defense turned into the “QUALITY QUARTET” on offense. Julia “Lightening: Lyons, Molly “the Wall” Jones, Maddie “the Little General” Obertello and Ruby “the Glove” Bogan all scored goals and not only controlled the defense but also controlled the offense along with so many others.
Persephone Quine did a great job supporting the defense with stellar Goalie play.
This old coach cannot remember a time that he had so much fun watching a group of wonderful young women having so much fun, working together, improving and supporting their team even without so many stars being there. It was an event I will always remember. I don’t think the Coaches Scott Stafford, Ella Easily and myself ever stopped smiling all night. This is truly what high school and team sports are all about…Next Women Up! Well on this night the next women certainly stepped up and more so…to run the JV Lady Dons streak to 24 games and 38 wins and 2 losses during the past three years. Bring on Bishop O’Dowd on Tuesday and Miramonte at home on Friday but at 5:30. Come out and root on this running and hustling bunch I promise you will have fun!
GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DONS!
