VARSITY BOYS HOOPS DESTROYS RED DEVILS 75-29, HUGE ROAD GAME AT CLAYTON VALLEY TONIGHT 730PM!

The DONS (15-5, 5-1) got back in the win column with a “never any doubt” road win at Mt. Diablo (1-19, 0-6) Tuesday night.  The DONS opened the game on an 18-0 run and ended the first with a 22-3 advantage.  The DONS pressure would force 9 turnovers in the quarter and the ball movement was superb with 9 assists on 10 made field goals.    

The Red Devils went on a little run to start the second but the DONS ended up winning the quarter 22-10, extending their lead to 44-13 at the half.  Ian had 12 points, Julian 9, Cam 5 and there were also four DONS with 4 points apiece.

The third was another period with outstanding ball movement for the DONS racking up 8 more assists on 10 field goals.  We won the quarter 21-12 pushing the lead to 40 going into the fourth.  DONS were ultimately able to sweep every quarter winning the fourth 10-4 for a 75-29 final.

Some highlights included:
–Brady alley-oop to Maddox off the glass for the slam in third quarter
–Julian with 3 three’s in the second
–Cam blocking a three which led to an AJ layup
–Ian with the steal and slicing through the entire defense for two coast-to-coast
–Julian hitting Preston for a corner three
–Cam with two nice assists to AJ in transition in the third
–Arman with a pretty look in the lane to Preston for two
–AJ finding Chase who buried the three
–Arman to Lorenzo for the smooth baseline jumper

The DONS shot 49% (31/63) from the field, 39% (7/18) from deep and 60% (6/10) from the line.  The Red Devils were 23% (10/44) from the field, 11% (2/18) from deep and 58% (7/12) from the line.  DONS dominated the glass 42-27 and won the turnover battle with only 11 to their 24.  DONS also had almost twenty more assists, 23-4.

Everyone got minutes and put up some stats in this one.  Ian was phenomenal in this game with a stat line that will boggle the mind – 16 points on 7/8 shooting with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and +45 in only 14 minutes.  AJ had 10 points on 5/7 with 4 rebounds and 2 assists.  Julian had 9 points and 2 assists.  Preston had 7 points and 6 rebounds.  Maddox had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and +37.  Gavin had 6 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and +37.  Brady had 6 points, 3 assists, 2 steals.  Cam 5 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists.  I’ll stop there.

Next up for the 16-5, 6-1 DONS is a tough road matchup tonight against Clayton Valley (13-9, 4-2) who took the lead at Campo Tuesday night with just over a minute to go but were unable to hold on.  They will certainly be hungry to respond and stay relevant in the DAL race.  Tipoff is at 730PM.

The DONS are still on top at 6-1 along with Las Lomas who is actually 7-1 but DONS hold the head to head tiebreaker.  Beyond that, you’ve got four teams with 2 losses including Clayton, Campo, Northgate and College Park.  Other notable games tonight are Ygnacio Valley at Northgate and Campo at Benicia.
