Frosh Boys Soccer-Physical Win Shuts out the Mustangs

In their second match up against San Marin High School, the Dons battled hard throughout an extremely physical game. Alec Schwartz (#21) helped control the midfield, and Acalanes only saw a few attempts on goalie, Luca Ginocchio. Still scoreless nearing the end of the half, aggressive play led to elevated emotions. When a hard foul from behind injured a key member of Acalanes defense #24 Gino Rubio, tempers flared, resulting in the ejection of the offending Mustang player who threw punches and earned himself a red card. The Dons came back after halftime with focus and intensity. Playing a man-advantage, the boys were fired up after a couple of close shots on goal, and then finally got one in the net. Owen Westen #6, earned his third goal in as many games, with an assist from Coen Gilson (#7). Acalanes controlled the second half, with #8 Grant Cortez and #5 Corbin Hansen, working to shut down offensive opportunities for San Marin.

Utilizing their momentum and energy, the Dons nabbed a second goal when #11 JP Birdwell took a decisive shot from the top of the box (assist Coen Gilson), making the final score 2-0.
