The JV Girls Water Polo team is on fire!  They played five games this past week – one against Northgate at Northgate on Wednesday, 10/16, and four more over the weekend down in Soquel for their tournament.  Girls beat Northgate and finished 3rd in the Soquel Tournament, losing only to Miramonte. 

Game 1 – vs Northgate 10/16 – final score 7-2

Q1 – Jess wins the sprint, her shot is high. Erin, Jess and Kylie all had multiple blocked shots, even after getting rebounds! Emi blocked a pass and stole the ball! Sadie’s shot was blocked, but she got a rebound, sent it over to Kylie who scored (1-0)!  Erin also scored to put the Dons up 2-0. 

Q2 – Jess wins sprint, Amayel’s shot was blocked, Kylie’s shot was wide, Cade had a steal, Emi, Santana and Erin’s shots were all blocked, Santana had a steal and Emi scored (3-0)! 

Q3 – Kelsey wins the sprint, Ella with a steal, Erin with a couple shots, Cade with a steal, Emi with two goals, Cade and Santana take shots, Santana scores (6-1), Northgate makes a Hail Mary shot at the buzzer that goes in – it was beautiful, I will begrudgingly admit!  6-2 Dons. 

Q4 – Jess wins sprint, her shot goes wide. Santana’s shot was blocked, Emi had a steal, Erin’s shot went off the post, Santana scores (7-2)! Cade had a steal, Mave took a shot (playing goalie out 7-on-6) that was short, their goalie took a shot at our open goal that landed short and floated wide.  Audrey had a steal, Mave took another shot that was blocked, and their goalie’s final shot at our open goal was short again!  DONS WIN 7-2.

Game 2 – vs Castilleja at the Soquel Tournament on 10/18 – final score 18-3 

Q1 – Jess wins sprint, Mave saved a couple strong shots, Sadie, Erin, Emi, Santana all had goals!  Dons up 5-1. 

Q2 – Jess wins sprint, Santana scores, Amayel scores twice! Erin scores twice!  Kylie scores! Emi scores twice! Cade scores!  Dons up 13-1.

Q3 – Mave saves a goal, Audrey blocks a ball (with her face!), Lilah scores twice! Kelsey scores! Dons up 16-2.

Q4 – Sadie is in the goal now, Kelsey wins sprint. Lilah scores! Sadie blocks two goals, Mave makes a goal after two rebounds! Audrey scores after chasing down a rebound and beating their goalie to it.  Their final shot lands short.  DONS WIN 18-3. 

Game 3 – vs Carondelet JV team at Soquel Tournament on 10/18 – final score 11-8

Q1 – Kylie, Erin and Santana score, Mave had a huge save in this physical and rough quarter.  Dons up 3-2. 

Q2 – Santana had a block, Mave with two huge saves, Kylie scores in a 6-on-5, and took another beautiful shot that was amazingly blocked by their goalie. Santana scored twice, and had a steal, Dons up 6-4. 

Q3 – Emi scores in a 6-on-5, Mave had a couple good saves, Erin scores! Dons up 8-7 in this nail biter!  

Q4 – Sadie scores after Santana’s hard fought steal. Emi with a steal, Kylie with a goal! Jess scores in a 6-on-5 while Santana is being triple teamed.  Mave with a monster save – the thud reverberated throughout the stands!  DONS WIN 11-8!  

Game 4 – vs Miramonte in the semi-finals at Soquel Tournament on 10/19 – final score 2-16

Not going to lie, this one was hard to watch. 

Q1 – Lucy had a huge block, Emi’s shot was high, Erin scores!  Mira up 4-1.

Q2 – Kylie’s shot was blocked, Lucy tipped out their shot, Amayel’s shot was short, Emi with a steal! Sadie’s shot was blocked on our power play, Cade’s shot was blocked, Emi with another steal, Kylie with a shot that bounced off the post, Cade with another steal, and Lucy with a shot that went high. Mira up 10-1.

Q3 – Lucy blocked a shot! Mira up 13-1. 

Q4 – Jess wins the sprint! Kylie and Sadie took shots.  Lucy with another monster save! Kylie scores!!! Santana’s shot goes high.  Final score 16-2, Mira wins.  

Game 5 – vs Arroyo Grande, 3rd place game at Soquel Tournament on 10/19 – final score 7-3! 

We weren’t sure about this game – AG had just lost to the Carondelet Frosh/Soph team – the team that famously beats their opponents by 20+ goals, but have only beaten us by 10-12 goals.  They lost to them 12-5 – which is pretty good comparatively.  We knew we had a fight on our hands for 3rd place!  

Q1 – They scored first, but then Lucy blocked another couple of their shots. Emi’s shot was blocked, Jess’ shots went high and off the post, Santana with the rebound, Emi scores!  1-1. Lucy kept blocking their shots!

Q2 – Jess wins sprint.  Santana’s shot was short, Jess’ shot was blocked, Lucy with an incredible block, Sadie’s shot bounces off the post, but is recovered by Emi who scores!  2-1 Dons!  Their high lob goes over Lucy’s outstretched fingers and into the high left corner – it was beautiful – 2-2. Cade’s shot went high.

Q3 – Jess wins sprint, Cade’s shot blocked, Lucy with more blocks and saves, Kylie with a steal! Our third shot finally floated in – 3-2!  Luck with more blocks, they score on a breakaway, but Kylie answers, Dons up 4-3!

Q4 – Jess wins sprint, Emi scores! 5-3! Luck keeps blocking everything coming her way!  Sadie with a beautiful lob shot – score!  6-3! Luck keeps blocking!  Cade’s shot goes high, Emi scores!  Final score 7-3.  Dons take 3rd place!
