The Lady Dons have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming water polo season. All the fun started on Saturday, August 17th, with the annual Acalanes Alumni Game. The Alums SHOWED UP and the stands were packed. Head Coach, Misha Bushell said, “This is hands down my favorite day of the season because it shows our community the long-lasting importance of our women’s water polo program!”
The Alumni team was stacked with close to 20 players, including 2024 Olympian Jewel Roemer, Audrey Cox, and all three Heffelfinger sisters, Mary Beth, Heidi, and Wendy–who finally got to play on the same team after 9 years of Acalanes polo! It was great to have four of the seven class of 2024 graduates play before they headed off to college; Brooklyn Plomp, Sophie Hendrickson, Liv Hoppe, and Kyra Weiss. The game was a blast! The alums were the first to score but the current varsity squad held their own and battled back with goals from sophomore Finley Graff and senior Levand Koopah. The final score was 10-5, but everyone was in good spirits as they headed to the Alumni Celebration after the game.
Tahoe Retreat
The weekend after the Alumni game, the girls headed up to Tahoe for the annual Varsity Retreat. The weather was unseasonably cold, but the rain and freezing temps didn’t bother the Lady Dons. They did a lot of team-building, games, cooking, and beach volleyball when the sun finally came out on Saturday night. On Sunday, the girls enjoyed a morning hike and more beach volleyball before heading back home.
