Girls Varsity Tennis Goes 1-1 For the Week

The Girls Varsity Tennis team split their matches for the week, winning 6-3 over Las Lomas on Tuesday on the road, and falling 7-2 against Northgate on Thursday at home. Both opponents came into the matches with winning records as Las Lomas was 5-3 and Northgate was 8-3. Despite the challenge, the girls fought hard, pushing 6 of the 18 matches to 3rd set tiebreakers and winning 5 of them.

On the singles side, the lineup was the same as usual. Lines 3-6 all emerged victorious. Emily Roberts won line 3 in straight sets 7-5, 6-2. Grace Colaco won line 4 in a hard fought contest 3-6, 6-2 and 10-3 in the tiebreaker. Sienna Moise won Line 5 in straight sets 7-6, 6-1. Kate Widmann battled to win Line 6 by a score of 6-1, 2-6, and 12-10 in the tiebreaker. Grace Colaco was named player of the match.

On the doubles side, Riley Zirkel and Grace Britto stepped up to play Line 1 and narrowly lost 3-6, 6-2, and 10-4 in the tiebreaker. Ridhi Patel and Hetty Lofting played Line 2 and narrowly won 6-4, 3-6, and 10-8 in the tiebreaker, and Sadie Moise and Lauren Foster won Line 3 in straight sets 7-5, 6-4.

Northgate

On Thursday, the girls faced a very tough opponent in Northgate. To add to the difficulty on the singles side, everyone played up as Line 1 singles player Aamena Shipchandler missed the match due to illness, with Molly Jones stepping in to play Line 6. Northgate won all the singles matches.

The matches on the doubles side were more competitive and tilted in the Dons favor. Ridhi Patel and Lauren Foster reunited to play Line 1 and won 4-6, 7-5, and 10-5 in the tiebreaker. Riley Zirkel and Grace Britto played Line 2 and narrowly lost 6-2, 3-6, and 11-9 in the tiebreaker. Audrey Parkin and Hetty Lofting played Line 3 and cruised to a 7-6, 6-1 victory.

Ridhi, Lauren, and Hetty were the only Dons to win both their matches on the week.
