Girls Varsity Tennis Falls 7-2 to Miramonte

On the day when the senior banners went up, the Girls Varsity Tennis team hosted cross town rival Miramonte. The Matadors came into the contest sporting a 9-2 record on the season, having won exactly 75% of their matches on the season (51 wins vs. 17 losses). And here is another fun stat. The Dons and Mats had combined to play exactly 100 matches so far on the season. Unfortunately the Mats had played 68 of those, which showed when they stepped out onto the courts as they were clearly already in midseason form.

On the singles side, the lineup stayed the same with Aamena Shipchandler playing Line 1, Piper Duff Line 2, Emily Roberts Line 3, Grace Colaco Line 4, Sienna Moise Line 5, and Kate Widmann Line 6. Emily won her match 3-6, 6-2, and 10-5 in 3rd set tiebreaker to remain unbeaten on the season, and Sienna narrowly lost 7-6, 6-4.

On the doubles side, Lauren Foster and Ridhi Patel played Line 1, Grace Britto and Riley Zirkel Line 2, and Hetty Lofting played with Jadith Labonge for the first time on the season. Grace and Riley won as they also remain undefeated on the season.

Apparently the girls picked a player of the match, but wouldn’t tell Coach Langtry who it was.

Get to know coach: Coach Langtry went to Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward and clearly has a glass half full outlook when showed me some of the lopsided scores and proceeded to say “It was closer than last year though!”
