Freshman Dons Lose Heartbreaker to Cal High, 12-13

Acalanes vs. Cal High Sept 12th

Our Dons hosted the Cal High Grizzlies for a narrow loss of 12 to 13. As you can see from the score it was a defensive duel.

Given all that “D”, let’s start there. Our Dons put a lot of pressure on the QB. Joaquin Bordi (22) had the only recorded sack, and one near sack, but the pressure was coming from all over. Mason Anderson (21) had three tackles and three near sacks. Brandon Simmons (45) also recorded one tackle and two near sacks. Kyle Sanftner (67) had a nice showing with five tackles and a fumble recovery. The secondary also did their part, Cade Korptia (35) had three tackles and a nice swat away, of what would have been a meaningful reception. Landon Page (34) had three tackles along with breaking another pass. Maxim Volpain (1) also put up a huge stop in the fourth quarter.

On offense, Joaquin Bordi (22) had a season high 15 carries. Hats to the assist from his offensive line. Bordi also had a running touchdown. QB Colton Whalen-Schlosser (9) connected with six different targets (Nick Zagorov (5), Treysen Roberts (11), Finn Aiken (15), Grant Matter (16), Marco Long (19), Miles Moore (25)), he also had four carries with one for a touchdown. Miles Moore (25) also had a big night with seven carries. Treysen Roberts had a standout performance with five carries, two receptions and a big game starting kick off return.

In the end our Dons just ran out of time. In the final series the Dons were pushing down field, with Colton Whalen-Schlosser (9) connecting with Nick Zagorov (5) for a nice pass that was just short of the goal line.

Final score: Dons 12, Cal High 13
