The Varsity Baseball team dominated Clayton Valley on Thursday, as they notched their 20th victory of the season. The magical 2024 campaign has been a fantastic ride. The Dons improved their league record to 6-2 and their overall tally to 20-2 before a big home crowd!
Peter “Rubberarm” Thorn was at it again, making his 12th appearance of the campaign. He threw 5 innings, gave up one hit and one walk while striking out two Ugly Eagles in an efficient 57 pitch performance. Thorn continued to showcase pinpoint control and a nasty array of breaking pitches. He had the contest well in hand for the duration of his outing.
Pete was relieved by Freshman Austin Mc Manamon. Austin had the best performance of his young career on the bump for the Dons with a clean 6th inning. He looked calm and confident as he gave up a walk and registered a strikeout in his inning of work.
Brady Quinn made his 4th appearance of the season on the hill and looked great. He retired Clayton Valley in order in the 7th inning in a tidy 6 pitch outing.
The offense was led by second baseman Mason Zirkel. Mason was 2-2 with a couple of hits, a couple of RBIs and a run scored. He has been a key player for the boys down the stretch.
First baseman Sully Bailey had a nice game with several solid defensive plays. He also was hit twice by Clayton Valley pitches and was knocked in both times by Zirkel.
Centerfielder Keegan Goddard had a hit and an RBI, and a stolen base, as well as an impressive diving catch to kill an early Clayton Valley rally.
Freshman DH Drew Asadorian also had a nice game with a roped single to right field off a tough lefty. Drew also stole a base and scored a run.
The boys now head into the final week of the season with two games against Campolindo next week. Come out on Tuesday at 4pm for Senior Night as the Dons try to notch a league championship. Their final regular season game is also against Campo in Moraga on Thursday at 4pm. Let’s go Don’s Nation! Time to rally!
